Here are some typical questions and answers about LAPS:

        Q. What are the events like?

        A.  They are a pleasant social occasion where people can talk about issues having to do with polyamory, such as how to come out to your friends and family, difficulties with jealousy, children and the PTA, and so on. The events are not about casual sex or swinging, and do not involve these activities. The brunches take place in local restaurants and the potlucks take place in private homes.

        Q. How many members usually attend the events?

        A.  We've had as few as 6 and as many as 53. Average seems to run between 15 and 30 participants for the potlucks and between 6 and 15 participants for the brunches.

        Q. What is the average age of the attendees?

        A. The age range is from early 30s to early 60s.

        Q. Is it mostly men or mostly women?

        A.  It changes from event to event. In polyamorous relationships, lots of things can happen, so gender balance doesn't tend to matter.  Our feelings about orientation are very open, so there's never an exclusion of either gender for the sake of balance or equal numbers.

        Q. Is there a form of  dress for parties?

        A.  No, however California casual seems to be the norm.

        Q. What is the average length of the events?

        A.  Potlucks usually start at 7 p.m. and last until midnight. If we have a speaker or program, the speaker begins at approximately 8 p.m. The brunches last until people go home, usually from 2 to 5 hours.

        Q. Is there a general subject for discussion?

        A.  Only on potluck nights where we have a speaker or program. Usually we try to have a round robin of introductions and maintain a poly-friendly atmosphere for discussion of whatever the group wants or needs to discuss.

        Q. Any cost or fees to belong?

        A.  None, for the potlucks just bring some food to share with 3-4 people. At the brunches everyone pays for their own brunch.

        Q. Any additional information you can provide ?

        A.  The group was started in approximately October of 1996 by a woman who saw a need for local polyamory support in the Southern California area.  It expanded to the point where we now have a large, informative website, events once a month, and occasional speakers.

        Q. Is it a good place to meet people?

        A.  Absolutely.  And best of all, you already know that whoever you meet is either already poly or at least thinking about it!
